I documented my trip to Malaysia by using Twitter about once a day.
- Hong Kong, 6am: have not been up this early since my last morning run in winter. Waiting for the 1st MTR train to arrive. Station still hot.
6:02 AM Sep 20th - This will be the 1st time (a week!) since I joined that I won’t monitor Twitter around the clock. I’ll only be tweeting & replying. Strange.
6:05 AM Sep 20th - For all Hong Kong arctic office environment fans, the MTR isn’t a place to be in the very early morning. Feels same like outside – humidity.
6:08 AM Sep 20th - Leaving the Airport Express and being greeted by a row of trolleys makes me happy each time. Efficiency and service at its best.
6:51 AM Sep 20th - Can I throw myself to the floor screaming “this is not human” because HKIA stil does not do boarding by seat rows? The one thing I complain.
7:14 AM Sep 20th - 88 2G, hello SMS.
7:15 AM Sep 20th - Just when I mention it, Singapore Airlines at opposite gate blares through speakers “boarding by seat rows”. It’s only my airlines’ problem?
7:19 AM Sep 20th - Arrived in Kota Kinabalu. Airport field: ehem. Building: oh ho. Weather: cloudy (yeah, no burning), hot and *dry* (so much better than HK).
11:47 AM Sep 20th - What a different, opposite to HK but also to Lux, lifestyle here is. So relaxed but friendly, feels like I’ve been here for yrs (it’s good).
11:51 PM Sep 20th - And on the first day of my trip, the troubled tooth has become a lot more touch sensitive again. Let’s see how that will develop (hope not).
11:59 PM Sep 20th - Peter the Lizard‘s brother showed up for dinner, I submitted greetings. Monkeys happy to make new friends, play in garden with real trees

12:01 AM Sep 21st - My daytime highlight was to drive car after months of a break. Nighttime highlight would be to catch only moskito in twice HK sized bedroom.
12:06 AM Sep 21st - I caught the mosquito. It was dangerously close for that I use a repellent.. Now I just wish the tooth would feel better after a good sleep.
12:17 AM Sep 21st - @Battlestars Right now I’ve lunch at a tea plantation in the mountains surrounding Mount Kinabalu. Free WiFi. Give me laptop & I stay here:)
1:09 PM Sep 21st - Morning started well with a car scare (silly thing), mountain climbs behind slow trucks and u-turn at a waterfall (swim) as too many people.
1:11 PM Sep 21st - Now enjoying view, peace, WiFi & tea while waiting for lunch at a tea plantation in the mountains around Mount Kinabalu. Fish massage later.
1:13 PM Sep 21st - “Relaxing is like gravity: the more you have, the slower time passes.” Yet much can be achieved. A sense completely forgotten in Hong Kong..
1:15 PM Sep 21st - @Battlestars I wish I could first stay in Hong Kong before moving haha.. you’re one step ahead

8:38 PM Sep 22nd - Yesterday enjoyed nice river bath surrounded by hundreds of fish; forget those tiny suckers in Mongkok
River was warmer than swimmingpool.
8:41 PM Sep 22nd - Last night was interesting: safety inspection failing chalet at Mt Kinabalu foot, night stormier than Antarctic, guy snoring like polarbear.
8:44 PM Sep 22nd - Friends complain about cold mountain weather when in fact the car’s indoor we’ve been traveling all day is much cooler so they use jackets..
8:49 PM Sep 22nd - Today I bathed under jungle waterfall with no other tourists around while more tiny fish massaged me. That’s most relaxing I’ve done in yrs.
8:57 PM Sep 22nd - @swexyhk I am travelling around Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia. Trip has been in the talks for 7 years. Unbelievable given short distance to HK..
10:43 PM Sep 22nd - Putting mosquito repellant on a freshly shaved face is a bad thing to do; but deservingly painful if doing it *again* (and again and again).
10:52 PM Sep 22nd - Not looking fwd to get up earlier tomorrow than taking 1st flight to here but it’s well worth the planned trip. I let myself be surprised

10:54 PM Sep 22nd - WW2 memorial visit today reminded me that I know virtually nothing about Asia’s WW1&2 other than the usual Hollywood “lessons”. Made me sad.
11:00 PM Sep 22nd - Went to “Tips of Borneo“: long car drive on both nice roads and challenging jungle paths. Stormy white beach, cliffs and road stall picnics.
8:06 PM Sep 23rd - Not much burned, quite surprised. A bit of after-sun & I should be ready for visiting the monkeys tmrw. Toured Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort.
8:15 PM Sep 23rd - Went to Lok Kawi Wildlife Park today: monkeys met their relatives. Nap time in botanical garden, relaxation meltdown. Now Italian dinner ha.
6:53 PM Sep 24th - More fun driving the old than the new, rented car, but for medium distances. Old one has more that special “feel how you drive” atmosphere..
7:01 PM Sep 24th - @yatbuicha Oh yeah, really a great time. Much needed and appreciated. Most importantly, the time *off* from the Net (and the world). Amazing
7:05 PM Sep 24th - Discovering the joy of Astro satellite TV.
11:42 PM Sep 24th - Relaxing Friday, maybe too much even: I actually *forgot* about my mobile, Twitter. Reading abt Tung Chung soccer moms’ more entertaining

11:06 AM Sep 26th - Re my previous (confusing) tweet: I meant that it’s even more fun to read about HK daily “problems” now that I’m away in such relaxed place.
12:10 PM Sep 26th - Visited a Muslim wedding reception today, that was something new and nice. Then “usual” Saturday night dinner (family/kid), Malay edition

10:53 PM Sep 26th - Spent the morning roaming around the local “Sunday market”, climbed the pagoda and tasted some region-wide famous food bought at the market.
10:32 PM Sep 27th - Afternoon quest for a beach you’d imagine from photos almost shattered by private hotel beaches and a so-called “lagoon” (actually a river).
10:35 PM Sep 27th - Finally found nice beach: incredibly long, completely empty apart from a cow. Resort, only some old Westerners at pool provided free shower.
10:38 PM Sep 27th - Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort dinner buffet. Nice with some bugs: in both real & flaw sense.. Just made it out before typhoon-like storm hit.
10:42 PM Sep 27th - Driving home: horizontal rain, n0 visibility, ppl holding on their roadside stalls for dear life, trees falling everywhere, squeaky wipers ..
10:45 PM Sep 27th - We made it home in one piece
That was so much fun (although dangerous, I admit) I would have done it again (that’s plain stupid, I know).
10:51 PM Sep 27th - @jaszmeen There’s a T1 warning in HK now (typhoon still far away). I drove through a sudden storm near Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia just now

10:54 PM Sep 27th - Back in Hong Kong, taking the Airport Express as a bus stop would be 3x farther away from home than the MTR. No intention to get (too) wet..
12:11 AM Sep 29th - Today was relaxing, packing. Flight was moved to another gate, then delayed by 40mins, I got the only empty row
delay to leave plane >HK.
12:13 AM Sep 29th - @Battlestars Re “where am I”: didn’t tweet much, sorry for the delay. I was in Tuaran but it felt like Isla Nublar.
12:33 AM Sep 29th - I didn’t read any news for a week & I do *not* intend to try to catch up other than for work. World moves on, plenty to do in present times.
12:36 AM Sep 29th - Week in new environment with new people, no news nor twitter updates reading has been amazing. Even more so its effect I just begin to feel.
12:39 AM Sep 29th - @Battlestars I won’t bother myself picking up lots of things other than which updates were released last week. Not in hyper HK mood anymore.
12:43 AM Sep 29th - First day back to HK: heavy rain, another round of dentist visits, have to battle my way through a neighbor’s wedding’s group photo taking..
10:49 AM Sep 29th
